*** 3,9 stars ***I know why I added this book to my TBR: because I had read
M's review and now after finishing the book and re-reading her review, I'd highly recommend you to read them in the same order:
M's review --> then if you'll decide to give [b:Cooper's Promise|15866405|Cooper's Promise|Timothy Jay Smith|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348854321s/15866405.jpg|19070111] a go-->
the book. Because it is not an easy read. The author confronts delicate and sensitive subjects. Even though [b:Cooper's Promise|15866405|Cooper's Promise|Timothy Jay Smith|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348854321s/15866405.jpg|19070111] takes place in an invented country of Lalanga somewhere in Africa, sadly, but it seems like the only fictitious fact about this country is its name. Lalanga could have been any country in Africa that suffers from the consequences of brutal civil war, corrupted governments and police, poverty, slavery, hunger, trafficking, child prostitution, the lack of prospects of a decent life for millions and millions of human beings.
I totally agree with everyone who insists that this book should be filmed. On the other hand, it would be pity to skip this book and wait for a film coming out, because it is really very good written. And it is undeniably that Timothy Jay Smith knows the subjects he writes about.
The story of Cooper Chance, army sharpshooter and deserter, starts maybe a bit slowly , but it turns very quickly into an action packed blockbuster that leaves you no time to catch a breath! It offers a wide range of serious political and human issues(see above) and a very intriguing plot.
I really hope to see this book as a movie.
