In the Middle of Somewhere

In the Middle of Somewhere - Roan Parrish, Robert Nieman
Audible.

Rounded up to 4 stars

To finish his dissertation Daniel Mulligan has to accept the only teaching job he could get. A small college in Holiday, Northern Michigan, is by far not a dream work for an openly gay Philly who was born and lives all his life in a big city, but Daniel used to be NOT FIT INTO, so he considers it simply as the next obstacle in his life, that he has to overcome.

When Daniel had a car accident on his way to Holiday, hitting a dog that appeared from nowhere on the road, I got a little shock. I went immediately back to the blurb and re-read it – did I oversee a word SHIFTER there? No way I would have listened to it further if Daniel was supposed to have a relationship with THIS DOG. Thanks God, it was not a DOG – no shifter far and wide, but a very attractive stranger who offered his help. It is how Daniel and Rex Vale met.

I have to be honest. I don’t know if I would have enjoyed this novel as much as I did if I had read it. But an audio book was a goody.
I very much enjoyed Daniel’s POV by Robert Nieman. His narrating style precisely meets my expectations. I love his voicing of Daniel a lot. This romance is simply MADE to listen to.

Maybe In the Middle of Somewhere is not perfect.

Maybe it is a bit repetitive.
Maybe it is stereotypical.
Maybe it is a bit too long.
Maybe not much happens here.
Maybe this novel doesn’t offer too much story.

But what this book gives us and what convinces me here are GREAT CHARACTERS.

It is impossible not to love Rex, and it is difficult not to feel high/joy, witnessing their relationship in progress.

The title has become a very special meaning at the end. It is not IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE anymore.

It is IN THE MIDDLE OF SOMEWHERE.
Means HOME.
MEANS REX.
